Fixing Maya Cameras

Every now and then, the Maya cameras ‘freak out’ – especially in huge scenes that span thousends or even tens of thousands of units ……………………………………………………….. you get it.

The camera ‘breaks’ and displays ‘NaN’ in the Channel Box / Attribute Editor

Here are 2 ‘solutions’ for these occurrences – best do both to be sure!
You ask ‘why is this happening?!’ – well the short answer would be ‘It’s Maya!’.

Camera NaN – Solution:

Check your Preferences > Cameras > Fit Factor

This value defaults to 0.95

If you notice this being any other value, then setting it back to 0.95 might do the trick.

Another annoying ‘feature’ that happends now and then is that the camera decides to tumble around a completely random spot and the camera ‘flies off’ – again… 🙁

Camera Tumble – Solution:

Well it’s more like a guidline 😉 (love that great movie – ‘Pirates of the Caribbean – Curse of the Black Pearl’)

If your camera is broken and/or doesn’t tumble like you want it to, then this might help.

  • Select the ‘broken’ camera
  • Modify > Reset Transformations
